"

I want to see more innocent children and vulnerable people protected, assisted, and restored to lives of freedom. I actually believe this is possible because I have witnessed it.  Through love and commitment, we will see this continue, and this is why I have hope.”

- Raksmey

Reach Coordinator
Cambodia

"

Radical hope to me is knowing what can happen in the future and not waiting to see a glimpse of it, but actually making a start now. Taking action and believing that while there might be a small impact now, it will be multiplied in the future because of the foundations that have been laid.”

- Katie

Country Manager
South Africa

"

Knowing all that we know about human trafficking and the ways it affects people mentally, physically, in every area of their life…we still believe that we will abolish slavery everywhere forever. And that to me, is radical hope.”

- Sheun

Global Reach
Coordinator
USA

"

For me, radical hope is an unwavering commitment to the ONE. I believe that the cycle of trafficking can and will be broken.”

- Angie

"

Radical hope is not about dreaming of bigger things in the future. It's about the small, faithful actions of many people now, which will result in great change. This is something we see all the time.”

Meet Maly*,

A minor in Southeast Asia who was secretly manipulated and sexually exploited by her mom’s boyfriend while the mother was at work.

After her parents divorced, Maly could not attend school because her family couldn’t afford it. She grew up in poverty, working alongside her siblings until her mom met a man who provided for the family and sent her to school.

Maly's Story

When the mother was away, the boyfriend would ask Maly to come to his room and force her to perform sexual acts. She tried to escape, but he threatened to harm Maly and her siblings.

Her health quickly declined, which led Maly and her mom to the doctor, where she shared about the exploitation. The man was arrested, and Maly was referred by local law enforcement to A21 for support.

Maly started counseling to navigate the trauma she endured and overcome her painful experience. She was fearful of having to give up school again, but our team found a way for her to continue at the school she loved.

Maly's Story

After class, Maly comes to the Freedom Center and uses the space to read and play with her new friends. She also attends Life Programs and art therapy sessions. She loves to paint and use her creative skills to process her feelings. Her mother can see Maly feeling joyful and becoming more of herself again.

Providing access to freedom, healing, and restoration for young survivors is perhaps the single most powerful tool for inspiring hope and confidence that a child has ever known.

Meet Angel*,

She learned about the importance of vetting a new opportunity after being deceived by a job offer and exploited for labor.

After a season of struggling to find stable employment, Angel and her child went to stay with her mother. Soon after, she met a friendly neighbor who told her about a well-paying job in another city a few hours away. Angel pursued the opportunity with high hopes to provide for her family back home.

Angel's Story

She started as a live-in housekeeper, but the situation quickly became volatile. Angel’s family was worried as communication was sparse, and she didn’t sound well on the other end of the phone. When Angel’s brother went to find her, the employer would not let him see Angel.

He immediately contacted law enforcement, and our Aftercare team assisted Angel to another province, where she began attending the Freedom Center.

She joined an income-generating sewing program to learn a new trade and how to manage a budget. Angel took her skills to her home community to start a business sewing garments and doing alterations.

Angel's Story

While our mission is to abolish slavery, we know that is not possible without helping survivors avoid re-victimization. Because of your generosity, Angel was reunited with her family and equipped with the skills to provide a stable future for her and her loved ones.

Meet Raul*,

He left his home country of Honduras to join a work program in the United States. With the promise of a new job, Raul was excited to earn money to bring his young family to live with him.

But when he arrived, the employer withheld his ID documents and informed him of a debt he owed from the tools he’d use to complete the job. Raul began to panic as he calculated how long it would take to pay off the debt and make enough money to see his family again.

Raul's Story

The other workers appeared somber and rarely made eye contact. Weeks turned into months, and the employer kept increasing Raul’s “debt.” Until he learned about a lawyer who spoke Spanish and summoned the courage to ask for help. The lawyer helped Raul contact local law enforcement, who assisted Raul and several other workers out of the “work program” and to safety.

Raul was connected with A21 for assistance. Our team helped retrieve his legal documents and secure a stable job where he received fair pay and benefits. Raul is excited to have a good job and earn income to support his family’s arrival in the coming months.

When survivors of labor trafficking reclaim their ID documents and secure a reliable job, they experience a sense of fresh hope for the future and the freedom they’ve longed for.

Stories like Raul’s remind us of the importance of prevention. When people know what signs to look for, they can protect themselves from the schemes of traffickers.

Raul's Story

That’s why we’ve launched additional Can You See Me? campaigns throughout South America to raise awareness of the reality of forced labor. This contextualized campaign aims to equip the general public to recognize indicators of human trafficking, aiming to prevent exploitation before it can begin and encouraging audiences to report suspected scenarios.

Meet Bianca*,

As a young girl, Bianca was abused by her alcoholic father. Her childhood was filled with fear and the responsibilities of an adult. She didn’t have the opportunity to study and was expected to marry at a young age.

Little did she know, the worst was still in front of her.

Bianca's Story

Her husband was initially nice but became physically and psychologically abusive over time. His main goal was to exploit her sexually to support his hidden drug addiction. Bianca tried to escape with her two children, but she was unsuccessful.

Until one day, the A21 Hotline in Greece received a call about Bianca’s situation. The anti-trafficking police were notified and escorted Bianca and the kids to safety. They connected her with A21 for aftercare services.

Bianca met with our caseworker and began making plans for her future. She actively participated in Life Programs and gradually started to believe in herself again. On the day her third child was born, her trafficker was convicted to 10 years in prison.

Today, we celebrate her newfound freedom and independence. It didn’t come easy, but she works hard to overcome the trauma, build emotional resilience, and provide for her kids. Bianca has a good job and home she rents. She cannot believe how far she has come from the life she was once living.
